eCorridors was actually focused on Route 58 of Virginia. It all started, somebody very powerful in the south-side region. And I don't know exactly who, had called asking Virginia Tech as a land-grant university for help with economic development in south-side Virginia. And this is all not long after the tobacco collapse and textile collapse, So their economy was bust and they were trying really hard to find some way to revitalize the area. It also comes about when the tobacco indemnification funds were starting to be delivered to various states. So eCorridors was formed as a outreach arm of information technology to assist with getting the population on board to start thinking about new technologies. The big reason for IT's involvement was, you know at one point Blacksburg was the most wired town in America. And that was because Erv and Ma Bell and so forth came up with a strategy to allow residents of Blacksburg to access the internet the same way that anybody on campus could. And nobody else in the country had ever done anything like that. People knew about the Internet, especially in Virginia because Blacksburg had so much publicity about the Internet. And people here could actually access the Internet from their homes now all of a sudden. That in itself was considered to be an economic development boost. Specifically in south-side Virginia, where the Danville region you know, they were trying to market themselves and build an infrastructure that would market them as a high-technology corridor. And the idea was to build this infrastructure along though that region and provide some sort of economic development. Now it doesn't happen all at once. And Erv always said it's going to take 10 plus years. And it does at least from start to begin. There are still places in Virginia that are just starting and end part of that is you really did have to convince the population. And then it becomes very political. And you're starting to see the big corporations influencing legislation about what municipalities can and cannot do. And that exists today. Because really at the time it was like "what? Why do I need that?" And in fact, when, when Erv managed to get funding to do this Blacksburg electronic village and know that he's got a great story where somebody from NSF is like, who would ever want to do anything like that?
