Virginia Tech's Advance Research Computing group (ARC) provides centralized support for research computing by building, operating, and promoting the use of advanced high-performance computing infrastructure at Virginia Tech. Like any aspect of technology, high-performance computing (HPC), hardware is constantly evolving to provide optimal performance, processing speed, durability, and energy efficiency.

Supercomputers that were state-of-the art just a few years ago are still useful, but are not necessarily the most efficient for the space and energy they require. Moving nodes from these older clusters to ARC's newer clusters creates space for new hardware, makes use of nodes that are still highly usable, and expands capacity of newer compute clusters and storage systems with minimal expense.
