Going from HokieSPA to My Virginia Tech (my.vt.edu)

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Changes

Students doing classwork on Torgersen Bridge

Overview

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) at Virginia Tech includes three core areas of software applications and services: Student Information, Human Resources, and Finance; commonly known as Banner ERP. This integrated set of tools enables business processes and transactions at all levels of the university.

Virginia Tech began using its legacy Banner Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution in 1997. In response to shifting business needs and new university policies, our internal software developers introduced custom enhancements to the on‑premise system as new features were needed. Over time, these custom enhancements were no longer supported, and our ability to align with the modern solution was limited.

To meet the university’s evolving needs, embrace advances in technology, and take full advantage of vendor upgrades and new features, Virginia Tech is switching from this legacy on-premise ERP to a cloud-based system starting with the student information system (HokieSPA). HokieSPA will be replaced with My Virginia Tech (my.vt.edu). This change will provide an intuitive and improved user experience for students, faculty, and staff.

The go-live conversion, (the time when we switch all systems from HokieSPA to my.vt.edu), is slated to begin prior to the Memorial Day weekend on Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m. and continue through Tuesday, May 26 at 8 a.m.
