Optimizing IT Investments and Partnerships

With the foundations of a modern IT operating model in place, the Division of IT advanced efforts to optimize technology investments, partnerships, and services across the university.

Through optimization work, the division is improving coordination and efficiency in how technology is purchased, delivered, and managed at Virginia Tech by:

  • Reducing duplication and unnecessary cost by rationalizing our software portfolio
  • Improving consistency in service delivery and technology management
  • Expanding access to shared enterprise solutions
  • Making more effective use of university resources

In FY2026, this work included advancing IT alignment, expanding shared enterprise services, consolidating software and services, and identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs. Together, these efforts are already generating savings, reducing institutional risk, and creating capacity for modernization and innovation.
