Microsoft 365 changes for students
Read the information on this page to know how your Microsoft 365 (M365) storage is changing and what you need to do. See the timeline to know when these changes are taking place.
Undergraduate Students: individual OneDrive and email storage
- Undergraduate students have a fixed storage cap of 10 gigabytes (GB) in OneDrive and 5 GB in Exchange Online email.
- Students have access to 1.5 terabytes of storage for email archiving. Emails will be archived automatically after three years.
Graduate Students: individual OneDrive and email storage
- Graduate students have a default storage cap of 10 GB in OneDrive. Departments may increase a graduate student's OneDrive storage upon request.
- Starting Aug. 29, graduate students receive 100 GB of email storage in Exchange Online email. This cannot be increased.
- Students have access to 1.5 terabytes of storage for email archiving. Emails will be archived automatically after three years.
Shared Microsoft resources (Teams, SharePoint sites, Groups, Viva Engage communities, etc.) for graduate and undergraduate students
- Starting Aug. 29, each student may own up to five teams, each with a storage limit of 1 GB. Teams include SharePoint Storage, group management, and collaborative features such as meetings and chat.
- Students who currently own Teams sites that have not been claimed by a department may select up to five of these to keep. Selections must be made by Sept. 30, 2025.
- Students who own fewer than five Teams sites will be able to create new ones under their account in MyCAT until they reach the five-Team limit.
- Students may also be added to department-owned shared resources by a faculty or staff member.
- Unclaimed shared resources (those either not selected by the student to retain, or not claimed by a department) will be deleted on Oct. 1, 2025.
