Building integrations allow business applications to communicate, helping employees access the data they need to perform key function from procurement to payroll.

In FY 2024, Enterprise Systems implemented the Boomi Integration Platform and hiring staff dedicated to building integrations — connections between applications such as those for financial transactions, human resources transactions, student information, etc., that allows these applications to “talk to” each other and exchange data seamlessly. These integrations are necessary for numerous key business functions, from payroll to procurement.

As Virginia Tech modernizes from a traditional, single-source enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution to an environment where business data is stored and accessed across multiple systems, our integration strategy must be modernized as well.

The Boomi platform provides a powerful and flexible platform for integrating diverse systems and ensuring that data is made available everywhere it is needed in an accurate and timely manner. With its pre-built connectors and low/no-code development environment, Boomi allows our team to respond to development needs quickly and efficiently. This, in turn, allows the university to keep up with increasing integration demands while at the same time reducing the amount of time required to maintain and update bespoke systems.

In addition, long-term maintenance efforts are reduced, helping to minimize the additional work created as the infrastructure expands. This enhanced organizational agility and performance will be crucial as Virginia Tech migrates its Student Information System to the cloud and contemplates a move to a more modern Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution.
