The Financial Transaction Review Analysis and Certification (FINTRACS) tool is software developed by the Enterprise Systems finance team and the Controller’s Office. FINTRACS simplifies the process to review and certify monthly financial transactions. Since it debuted in fall 2023, the finance team has continued to enhance the application to provide greater functionality and a more refined user interface. Enhancements made to FINTRACS during this fiscal year include:

  • In response to user feedback, filter selections are now saved when navigating within the application, significantly improving user experience compared to the initial version of the application.

  • The enhanced user interface includes more feedback regarding why action icons are disabled, helping users better understand and navigate the tool.

  • FINTRACS now includes direct links within the application to relevant MicroStrategy reports, including a new budget-to-actual report.

  • The tool has been upgraded to easily export data from within the application.

Customer reviews indicate that this application’s deployment has made monthly financial reviews more effortless and efficient. By actively monitoring financial transactions, Virginia Tech can ensure our accounting records align with actual spending, providing a clearer picture of our financial health. It also helps us detect fraud or unauthorized transactions in a timely manner, minimizing the risk of financial mismanagement.
